From: MElsant@aol.com Date: Thu 14 Mar 2002 Subject: Support Israel! PLO terrorist state dangerous for US! (VIPAC) --part1_144.b0dd9f7.29c29118_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Dear Mr. President: I deplore your decision to sponsor the recent UN Security Council resolution= =20 which supports "a vision of a Palestinian State." =A0Barely six months after= =20 the tragedies suffered by America on 9/11--which were celebrated by dancing=20 in the streets of the cities under Arafat's control--your administration=20 decides that the people who celebrated our tragedy deserve to have a country= =20 of their own. =A0That is beyond mere insensitivity to those American citizen= s=20 who have lost family and friends on 9/11 or who have lost family and friend= s=20 to Arafat's terrorist war. =A0It betrays the commitments that America has gi= ven=20 to Israel in the past. =A0It is also poor policy. On October 18 1991 in order to persuade Israel to attend a conference in=20 Madrid the American government sent a letter with the following reassurance= =20 to Israel: =A0IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE UNITED STATES TRADITIONAL POLICY WE DO= =20 NOT SUPPORT THE CREATION OF AN INDEPENDENT PALESTINIAN STATE. =A0If your=20 officials can not find this letter they can check the Le Monde web site at: http://www.en.monde-diplomatique.fr/focus/mideast/madrid-garantie-en Similar assurances were given to Israel when it gave up the strategic depth= =20 and oil wells of the Sinai peninsula in its peace treaty with Egypt. =A0The= y=20 were incorporated into the original Camp David Accords by a side letter from= =20 President Carter to Prime Minister Begin assuring that the "autonomy" for th= e=20 Arabs living in Judea Samaria and Gaza would apply only to people but no= t=20 to the land. =A0That letter meant that the United States does NOT support a=20 vision of an independent Palestinian State. =A0But that letter and the solem= n=20 pledge of the United States government it contained was discarded by your=20 administration as worthless words on a meaningless piece of paper as you=20 voted for that UN resolution. That is poor policy because not only does it broadcast to our friends that=20 the United States cannot be counted on in times of need it also broadcasts=20 to our enemies that American resolve is something that changes with the=20 prevailing political breeze. That message encourages America's enemies to=20 think that with a few more terrorist attacks they can succeed in changing=20 your administration's foreign and domestic policies to more closely resemble= =20 their own. That only increases the likelihood that more of those attacks wil= l=20 take place and destroy thousands more American lives. =A0 So please for Israel's sake for America's sake and for the sake of freedo= m=20 loving people everywhere stop denying Israel's right to defend itself in it= s=20 fight for survival against the terrorist PLO. =A0Surrender is not an option=20= for=20 Israel or America in the fight against the Islamic terror that threatens us=20 all. =A0Encourage Israel to destroy the terrorist infrastructure that Arafat= =20 has built in the territories he now controls. =A0This will make the world a=20 safer place for Israel and America and restore some of the honor that=20 American commitments used to convey.
