From: MElsant@aol.com Date: Wed 20 Mar 2002 Subject: Support Israel! Stop appeasement of PLO and Islamic terror! (VIPAC) --part1_4a.866ceb1.29c9e9c0_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Dear Mr. President: The lead article on the first page of the New York Times on March 19 concluded its opening sentence with the following brutally truthful words: "Israel moved under American pressure toward meeting Palestinian conditions for formal cease-fire talks." Your administration's recent policy moves reward Arafat's terrorism. That can only encourage Arafat to commit more terrorist atrocities in the near future and further dim any prospects for peace. Indeed after Vice President Cheney announced your administration's next such policy shift on March 19 and declared his intention to meet with Arafat the next morning a PLO suicide bomber killed 7 and critically wounded many others on a bus in northern Israel. Your new pro-PLO policies represent repeated surrenders to Islamic terror. After Arafat was caught red-handed smuggling tons of deadly weapons on the Karine A you said that Zinni was not returning to the Middle East until Arafat stopped the terror attacks against Israel. Arafat's response was to increase the terror attacks to a horrific level of bloodshed in shopping malls schools weddings and bar and bat mitzvahs. Your administration's response to this was to send Zinni back to the area post haste to sponsor a UN resolution supporting "a vision of a Palestinian State" and to have vice president Cheney declare his readiness to meet with Arafat. This pattern of serial appeasement of Islamic terror in Israel is not just damaging to Israel. It is also undermining our American soldiers in Afghanistan who are now fighting and dying to defeat Al Qaeda. You promised our nation that other countries would have to choose to be either with us or against us in this fight. Both Egypt and Saudi Arabia have refused to cooperate with your efforts to cut off the flow of funds to Al Qaeda. Yet your response has been to welcome their leaders to the White House as honored guests and to accept their policy suggestions regarding Israel as sound advice. This is not the unremitting war against Islamic terror that you promised our nation in the wake of 9/11. Rather it is a pitiful form of surrender which makes the next terror attack on America more likely. Rewarding Islamic terror anywhere increases the danger to freedom loving people particularly Americans everywhere. Please stop your pattern of appeasement of Islamic terror in Israel and across the Arab world. Such appeasement only increases the dangers to the lives--and way of life--of the American people that you swore to protect and defend.
