From: melsant@vipac.org Date: Wed 14 May 2003 Subject: Support Israel's Sharon against PLO's phony "right of return"(VIPAC) Dear Mr. President: The deaths of seven Americans in the recent Islamic terror bombing in Saudi Arabia are an outrage that demands a strong American response. I think Vice President Cheney had it just right when he said on 5/13: "The only way to deal with this threat ultimately is to destroy it. There's no treaty that can solve this problem. There's no peace agreement no policy of containment or deterrence that works to deal with this threat. We have to go find the terrorists." But if there can be no "Road map" for peace with Al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia why do you support one for the PLO in Israel's historical and Biblical heartland of Judea Samaria and Jerusalem? Imagine how wrong it would have been if Secretary of State Powell had spoken to the Saudis the way he recently spoke to the Israelis and urged them to appease the Islamic terrorists attacking them. Imagine how damaging it would have been if Secretary Powell had demanded that the Saudis follow a road map for peace with Al Qaeda and immediately grant Al Qaeda terrorists and the local population supporting them greater freedom of movement greater tax subsidies and eventually a sovereign state of their own. Imagine the disastrous consequences if Secretary Powell had demanded that the humanitarian needs of the local population supporting Al Qaeda be protected by patrols from a Quartet composed of the UN European Union Russia and Amnesty International. By realizing how damaging to America's own fight for survival against Islamic terror such a scenario would be in Saudi Arabia perhaps you can now understand how equally wrong and dangerous it is to impose the Quartet's Road Map upon Israel. It is not too late to undo the damage of the Quartet's road map. You can apply the principles articulated by Vice President Cheney to Israel's fight against PLO terror. And next week when you meet with Prime Minister Sharon in Washington tell him publicly and privately that until all PLO terrorists are found and destroyed and until the PLO publicly and unequivocally drops its phony "right of return" you will not expect the least concession from Israel. Sincerely |
