From: moishb@vipac.org Date: Thu 8 Jun 2006 Subject: Support Israel: "The Abbas Referendum: Not a Peace Plan Dear Mr. President: The current proposal by the Palestinian Arab leader Mahmoud Abbas to present a “Peace” referendum before the Palestinian Arabs is nothing more than a publicity stunt. It is not an offering of peace. It is a political move by Abbas against his terrorist rivals Hamas who are now in control of the Palestinian Arab Parliament. An article written by Ben Fishman and Mohammad Yaghi clarifies this false peace proposal: “Mahmoud Abbas' announcement of a national referendum was wrongly interpreted as a peace plan. The actual text of the document Abbas threatened to put to a popular vote much more closely resembles Hamas' own political program. There is no explicit statement that establishing a state within the pre-1967 borders would end Palestinian claims over Israeli territory. In fact the document can be viewed as another iteration of the PLO's 1974 phased plan that declared a willingness to accept the establishment of a national authority in any part of historic Palestine as a step toward "completing the liberation of all Palestinian territory." (Washington Institute for Near East Policy) Please do not be fooled by this Palestinian Arab ploy. The Arabs are still sending murder bombers into Israel to kill civilians. They are still launching rockets into Israel from Gaza and from Lebanon. Do not be fooled by this false proposal. I urge you to continue to isolate the terrorist Palestinian Arab regime. No economic or other aid until they stop the terror. There is no difference between the Hamas and the Fattah terrorists of Abbas. They both seek the destruction of Israel.
