From: moishb@vipac.org Date: Thu 12 Oct 2006 Subject: Support Israel: End United Nations Aid to Arab Terror Dear Mr. President: Each year your administration gives over 100 million dollars of US taxpayers' money to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Arab refugees (UNRWA). Yet a recent audit of UNRWA's finances demonstrates that UNRWA is sending those US taxpayers' dollars to Hamas terrorists. That violates the laws of our country which prohibit funding Hamas. These facts were presented in a letter to Secretary Rice on Thursday September 28 by US Congressmen Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Steven Rothman (D-NJ). These congressmen hoped that Secretary Rice as she began her new trip to the Middle East would use this information to end your administration's funding of Hamas terrorists through your contributions to UNRWA. "US anti-terror law explicitly prohibits taxpayer dollars from supporting terrorists" said Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ). "However we know that a number of UNRWA staff ran for parliament in the Palestinian territory as official Hamas candidates earlier this year. We know that Hamas supports the indiscriminate killing of civilians. We know that UNRWA cannot account for large amounts of money it has spent. And we know that UNRWA does not check Palestinian beneficiaries against a list of known terrorists." Please Mr. President end all your administration's funding of Palestinian terrorists immediately. And have Secretary Rice deliver that message on your behalf to all the Middle East leaders that she meets on her new trip to the region. Otherwise you risk violating America's anti-terror laws. But what is even worse by funding Islamic terrorists in one part of the Middle East while our servicemen and women risk their lives fighting Islamic terrorists in another you make a mockery of the sacrifice of our young men and women in uniform.
