From: melsant@vipac.org Date: Sun 9 Dec 2007 Subject: [Vipac-letters] Support Israel! Let Jews Live & Build in Jerusalem! Sender: vipac-letters-bounces@vipac.org Errors-To: vipac-letters-bounces@vipac.org Dear Mr. President: This past Friday December 7 was the 66th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. December 7 1941 was declared by President Roosevelt as "a date that will live in infamy" because the devastating attack on the United States launched by Imperial Japan on that day took place while "peace talks" with Japanese diplomats were underway in Washington. Unfortunately Secretary Rice made a mockery of the infamy of that date when this past Friday December 7 2007 she launched her own sneak attack against the right of Jews to live and build in Jerusalem. Secretary Rice in comments to reporters after her meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in Brussels on Friday said she brought up the issue of a recent tender to build some 307 units in the Har Homa neighborhood of Jerusalem. "I've made [it] very clear about seeking clarification on precisely what this means" Rice said. "I've made clear that we're in a time when the goal is to build maximum confidence between the parties and this doesn't help to build confidence." Mr. President you gave a letter to Prime Minister Sharon declaring your commitment that Israel will retain its major settlement blocks--the largest of which are in and around Jerusalem--in any future arrangement with the Palestinian Arabs. I'm certain your letter was not just an insincere ploy to extract further concessions from Israel. But Secretary Rice's attack on Jews living in the Har Homa neighborhood of Jerusalem is making a mockery of your letter to Prime Minister Sharon and is every bit as treacherous and sneaky as the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. She is using the cover of your letter and the recent Annapolis meeting to ambush the right of Jews to live freely under their own sovereignty in Jerusalem. Mr. President if you allow Secretary Rice to strike against Jewish sovereignty in Jerusalem without a public rebuke from you then December 7 2007 will acquire its own sobriquet that of a date that will live in disgrace. Please spare your administration from such shame by immediately and publicly repudiating Secretary Rice's attack on the Jewish right to live free and build in all of Jerusalem. In fact now would be the perfect opportunity for you to redeem your administration's tattered reputation in the patriotic community by publicly declaring your support for Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Sincerely |
